A Southeast Asian mecca for culinary excellence, Ho Chi Minh City once again hosts Food&HotelVietnam

Vietnam’s largest and most comprehensive biennial food & hospitality industry event returns for its 9th edition; gears up to meet strong demands from fast-growing country’s food, hospitality and tourism sectors.

Ho Chi Minh City, 23 February 2017 – Vietnam is projected to rank among the fastest-growing economies in Asia, with an impressive GDP growth rate of 6.21 per cent in 20161. 2017 is further expected to be a fruitful year for Vietnam’s economy as its GDP growth is estimated to hit 6.5 per cent2. These favorable economic conditions, backed by rising consumer spending, increasing tourism arrivals and a fast-expanding retail network have all served to raise growth targets for Vietnam’s food & beverage (F&B) markets.

Vietnam’s per capita expenditure on food and non-alcoholic beverages is expected to grow at seven per cent per annum from 2012 to 2016, reaching US$276 by 20163; its food industry is estimated to achieve compound annual growth rate of six per cent over 2013 to 20184. For beverages, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has forecasted Vietnam will produce 4.1 billion liters of beer, 350 million liters of wine, and 6.8 million liters of soft drink by 2020. Beverage export revenue is expected to edge up to US$ 450 million by 2020 and US$ 600 million by 20255.

The modern retail market is also witnessing a surge as the country continues to experience an influx of multinational retail giants, such as AEON Mall (Japan), Lotte (South Korea), Marks & Spencer (UK), Central Group (Thailand), Parkson (Malaysia), who already launched in Vietnam and are now looking to expand in a vibrant Vietnamese market.

Total international arrivals in 2016 is estimated to reach 10,012,735, a double-digit increase of 26 per cent over the same period last year6 - reinforcing Vietnam’s standing as a popular business and tourist destination in Southeast Asia, and underscores the critical need for hoteliers, food operators, retail businesses and other market leaders to quickly level up business operations and the quality of services so as to be able to meet and surpass industry and consumer demands.

The teams will compete in different classes, from Vietnamese and Chinese cuisines, vegetarian dishes, to dessert making and fruit and vegetable carving.
