Airlines increase flights in the summer

12/07/2022

Vietnam Airlines, Vietravel Airlines, Bamboo Airways… all increased flights and expanded routes to meet the increasing demand for summer vacation.

Due to the temporary calm of the Covid-19 pandemic, domestic airlines are predicting that the number of tourists traveling in the summer of 2022 will increase, on both domestic and international routes.

A representative of Vietnam Airlines said that from June 1st to August 15th, Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, VASCO) is expected to provide more than 7.1 million domestic and international flight seats, which is equivalent to more than 36,000 trips. In which, domestic flights have nearly 6.3 million seats, an increase of 6% compared to 2019. The routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and tourist destinations will increase by nearly 30% compared to the end of March. On international routes, the airline will provide more than 852,000 seats, equal to 40% of 2019’s output because the demand for international flights is expected to recover more slowly.

Vietravel Airlines will increase each day by 2 more flights Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City, 2 flights Hanoi – Da Nang, one flight Hanoi – Quy Nhon, 1-2 flights from Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang/Quy Nhon/Phu Quoc. Domestic flights between June and August were over 80% full. The flights from Hanoi – Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City – Phu Quoc are most interested this summer. The airline also plans to open international flights to Indonesia, Thailand, and South Korea; most recently charter flights from Ho Chi Minh City – Jakarta and Can Tho – Bangkok.

According to the Vietravel Airlines airline’s representative, the biggest problem now when increasing flights is the limitation of slots (time of take-off and landing). Vietravel is facing many difficulties such as not being granted slots, shortage of personnel, resources on aircraft…

Bamboo Airways also plans to increase the number of seats by 15% compared to the current one, and at the same time to open a new international route. They will rise the flights to tourist destinations: Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon… and the main route Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang. The airline has proactively arranged late flights after 7pm to tourist destinations and brought guests back from tourist spots after 9pm. Products flying at night will contribute to reducing congestion at the airport during peak time.

The airline (Bamboo Airways) also increased frequency and expanded the scale of routes to Asian, Australian and European markets to meet the demand of passengers during the summer peak period. For the European region, Bamboo Airways has opened regular ticket sales from Ho Chi Minh City – Frankfurt (Germany) to operate from June 16th with one round-trip flight per week, in addition to the Hanoi – Frankfurt/London route. The operating frequency of routes Hanoi – Narita (Japan) and Hanoi – Incheon (Korea) will increase to 7 round-trip flights per week from June 1st. The return flight route from Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok from 3 flights will increase to 4 flights per week from June 1st; The Ho Chi Minh City – Singapore route currently has 2 flights, which will increase to 5 flights per week from June 2nd.

Currently, the price of air tickets is also increasing. At the end of the week, the price is 30-50% higher than the time of the week. The route Hanoi – Nha Trang on the weekend of June of Vietnam Airlines is about 6 million VND round-trip, the Hanoi – Da Nang route costs more than 4 million VND round-trip. The route from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang costs nearly 3 million VND round-trip, Ho Chi Minh City – Phu Quoc nearly 4 million VND round-trip. The route Hanoi – Con Dao of Bamboo Airlines has the highest price at the weekend of more than 8 million VND round-trip (including taxes and fees), the Hanoi – Phu Quoc route costs more than 6 million VND round-trip…

In addition, to prepare for the peak-time service, airlines have reviewed and maintained aircraft, equipped with ground facilities, and ensured sufficient resources to serve in the best technical condition, especially at airports with increased flights during peak seasons.
