At the peak of the summer tourist season, hotel and airline prices soar

28/07/2022

(CLO) As the tourism sector approaches its summer peak, demand for flights, hotel room service, homestays, and buses is gaining tension…

The tourism industry entered the summer peak, and destinations across the country from Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Quang Nam, Phu Quoc, Binh Dinh, Can Tho, Binh Thuan… all welcomed a rapidly increasing number of visitors.

The General Statistics Office reports that 60.8 million domestic tourists were served by the Vietnamese tourism industry in the first six months, more than 1.5 times as many as in 2021.

In particular, in May and June 2022, the number of visitors reached a record high for many years, precisely 12 million and 12.2 million visitors.

On many local and online channels, travel airline ticket booking applications… prices, and many domestic flight routes to Phu Quoc, Con Dao, Da Lat, and Nha Trang… are all high, especially in the perfect hours during the day and weekend.

Specifically, Ms. Nguyen Hong An, who lives in District 4, Ho Chi Minh City, said that she and her best friend planned to travel to Dalat at the end of July. She consulted a cheap airline with a price of nearly 5 million VND while the other airlines offered up to 7 million VND/round-trip tickets for two people.

On the route of Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang , the one-way price of Vietjet Air’s economy class departing at 6.15 am on July 17th increased by nearly 2.4 million VND/ticket (including rental and fees), the lowest price of that day at 14 million VND/ticket. With Vietjet Air, the Ho Chi Minh City – Vinh route on July 17 costs from 1.7 to 1.8 million VND/ticket, and Vietnam Airlines from 2.5 to 5.3 million VND/ticket (tax and fee included).

No city. Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi also increased by 20-30% compared to May-June, about 2.6-5 million VND/round-trip tickets. In particular, on some weekends in July and August, this flight segment of Bamboo Airways and Vietnam Airlines can cost up to 4.5 – 5.9 million VND/ticket (including taxes and fees) and not less than 10 million VND/round-trip ticket.

Meanwhile, if you fly internationally from Ho Chi Minh City – Singapore/Bangkok (Thailand) also on July 17, passengers of AirAsia and Vietjet Air only lose about 1.2 – 1.4 million VND/ticket/way. (taxes and fees included).

Not only because the price of the plane increased, the price of hotel room service, homestay, passenger car … was also in the “fever”. Contact them a 4-star hotel with 160 rooms in Da Lat City, Ms. Tran Ngoc Cat My (office worker, living in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) was booked by the staff until the end of the first week of August. Many other homestays also said that the room will not be available until the end of July, the price for each room ranges from 450,000 to 900,000 VND.

Accommodations in the city. Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh) is also vibrant again after nearly 2 years of closure due to the Covid-19 epidemic. The hotel system, especially 3 – 5 star hotels, is always in a state of “burning out” rooms. Even homestays in small alleys also have guests. During a business trip at the end of June, Mr. Duong Trong Quy (30 years old, living in Ho Chi Minh City) said that because he subjectively did not book in advance so he had to stay at a lower-quality hotel.

Many garages running from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat, Nha Trang… were not having many seats. Ho Chi Minh City Dalat is 300,000 VND VND/pax, but on weekends like July 15-16, only seats in row B (upper floor) and a row of seats rose below, finally, “Although I knew that tourism was active again, I did not expect the price to go up so high. My family and I plan to go out at the end of July, but we may move it to August to make it easier to find airline tickets and hotels at a cheaper price,” said Mr. Vuong Minh Tri (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City).
