This year’s mooncake is a ‘luxury product’, escalating between 120,000 – 250,000 VND/250g

The price of mooncakes this year is quite high, 120,000 – 250,000 VND/250g, an increase of 10-15% compared to the same period last year, 80,000 – 100,000 VND/piece are very rare.

This year’s mooncake market started earlier than every year. Many shops have started selling mooncakes and introducing samples to businesses.

The “home-made mooncake” line is also starting to launch with small and individual cake brands starting to accept orders on social networks.

A representative of the Brodard chain said that this year, it will launch 18 different flavors of cakes in the market with a slight increase in output, flexible according to orders. In which, there are many new flavors such as red dragon fruit mooncake with cheese, moon cake with butterfly bean paste, egg green tea… with prices ranging from 190,000 to 250,000 VND/piece with a weight of 250g.

After a year of not producing mooncakes to supply the market, the ABC Bakery chain of pastry shops re-entered the mooncake market this year. Mr. Kao Sieu Luc, owner of this brand, said that in addition to familiar cakes such as mixed filling, green bean filling and coconut green bean filling, the chain also introduced some new types such as Ri6 durian mooncake. mooncake with melon seeds, longan cake with red apple longan…

“The price of mooncakes is high due to high production materials such as flour, sugar, and beans, in which high transportation costs force manufacturers to increase prices by 5-10%,” Mr. Luc said.

According to businesses, due to the general difficulties of the economy, the purchasing power of the market will be clearly differentiated, in which the popular line will be more severely affected because many businesses are still facing difficulties and have to cut spending. for workers.

Meanwhile, there are still many workers who lose their jobs or have their incomes reduced, so consumption for mooncakes will also decrease. “Consumers buy less but will buy better quality. This is an opportunity for mooncake brands to gain market share against floating, unbranded products on the market,” said a director of a food business.
