International visitors market in Vietnam saw positive signs

The number of searches about Vietnam tourism has increased, as has the number of international visitors went up, marking the recovery of the tourism industry.

According to the General Statistics Office, Vietnam welcomed 954,000 international arrivals in the first seven months of 2022, a rise of over nine times over the same period last year, with an average monthly growth rate of 62%.

Koreans were the most frequent visitors to Vietnam.

Of the top 10 markets, 9 are from Asia and the Pacific region, the rest are from the US market. Korea ranked first with 196,200 arrivals, up 903.7 percent over the same period. The US ranked second with 102,900 arrivals, up 5,382%. The Northeast Asia region has Japan with 46,000 arrivals, up 794.6%; China increased slightly by 34.5%, with 53,000 turns.

Despite a small number of visitors, European markets continue to grow at a rapid pace. The UK had the most visitors (26,400 arrivals, up 2958.6% over the same period), followed by France (23,400 arrivals, up 2963.7%), and Germany (23,600 arrivals, up 3897.1%).

High growth rate

From the beginning of 2022 until now, Vietnam has continuously been in the group of destinations with the highest growth in the world, with a growth rate of 50%-75%, according to Google Destination Insights statistics.

In July 2022, the search volume for tourist accommodation places in Vietnam reached 100 points, 5.9 times greater than at the start of March 2022. (17 points). Meanwhile, the number of international aviation searches to Vietnam surged threefold from the beginning of March 2022 to July 2022.

Compared to the same period in 2021, the number of searches from international markets about Vietnam’s tourism in July 2022 increased by more than 1,200%. The 10 most searched countries for Vietnam tourism are the USA, Australia, Singapore, India, Japan, Korea, UK, Malaysia, Germany, and Thailand.

India, a South Asian country with a population of about 1.4 billion people, ranks 4th in the top 10 most searched countries for Vietnam tourism. This shows quite a large potential coming from this source market.

The most searched destinations by the international community in Vietnam are Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Phan Thiet, Hue, and Vung Tau.

Vibrant domestic tourism

Vietnam’s domestic tourism market continues to record bustle. Ho Chi Minh City is the most sought-after destination by domestic tourists, the second is Phu Quoc – the focus of summer tourism this year. Followed by destinations such as Hanoi, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Da Nang, Vung Tau, Quy Nhon, Hue, and Phan Thiet.

The number of Vietnamese people searching for foreign travel in July 2022 is still high at 780% compared to the same period last year and is expected to continue to increase when global tourism activities are tending to recover. return.

Destinations in Southeast Asia still receive the most attention from Vietnamese tourists such as Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. This shows that close destinations are a priority trend for Vietnamese tourists in the context of post-pandemic recovery. Among the top 10 target markets are Australia, the US, France, and the United Arab Emirates.

Business warms up

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the business situation is warming up following the recovery momentum, with the number of businesses registering new and returning in the tourism and service sectors increasing rapidly.

According to data from the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in the first 6 months of 2022, the number of newly registered businesses related to the tourism sector has increased impressively, in which: Accommodation and catering services achieved an impressive increase. 3,065 enterprises, up 27.7% over the same period; employment and tourism services reached 3,902 enterprises, up 23.4%.

Boosting Vietnam’s tourism recovery

In response to new developments in the international visitor market to Vietnam, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and the Tourism Development Support Fund cooperated with tourism businesses, airlines, and destinations to plan the event. promotion activities to quickly recover the international tourist market to Vietnam, focusing on markets near Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe.

Vietnam’s tourism industry will participate in promotion at the JATA International Tourism Fair (JATA Tourism Expo) in Japan (September 22-25, 2022). This is the leading international travel fair in the region, focusing on attracting Japanese tourists, one of the leading markets of Vietnam’s tourism.

The World Travel Market (WTM) in the UK (November 9, 2022) is also an event that Vietnam’s tourism industry participates in. This is the world’s leading major international travel fair, gathering major partners from all over the world.

An important domestic promotion event is the International Travel Expo HCMC (International Travel Expo, in Ho Chi Minh City from September 8 to 10, 2022). This is one of the two largest annual international tourism fairs in Vietnam. The tourism industry will organize a tourism promotion program for the Greater Mekong Sub-region within the framework of the Mekong Tourism Forum (MTF) in Hoi An, Quang Nam (October 9-14, 2022). This is the largest tourism promotion event in the framework of cooperation in the Greater Mekong Sub-region.
