Can Gio will be a resort beach city

The above goal is stated in the Decision on the development direction of Can Gio recently issued by the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee. Accordingly, the city plans to increase the district’s average total production value in the 2021-2030 period by 20.7% per year. By 2030, the service sector will account for nearly 75% of the total production value of the locality; the entire urban road is illuminated; all public transport uses clean energy; 100% of waste is treated.

Can Gio will focus on developing services, marine tourism, maritime economy, farming, exploiting, and processing high-quality seafood. This locality is oriented to become a national key tourist area with a total number of 49 million visitors in the 2021-2030 period, an average growth rate of 12.5% per year.
International tourist routes will be connected to this place through the passenger port on the Saigon – Vung Tau channel. The city will also implement an investment project to expand the Can Gio beach encroachment tourist urban area; develop a traffic system connecting branch lines with Rung Sac road; build an intersection connecting Rung Sac road with the Ben Luc – Long Thanh highway.
Logistics infrastructure in the island district is also invested in by the city, including ports: for general, and international passengers, international transshipment containers at the confluence of the Long Tau river, Saigon – Vung Tau channel, Cai Mep – Thi Vai channel; a capacity increase of Can Gio – Vung Tau and Can Gio – Can Giuoc ferries; exploiting two more ferry routes connecting Go Cong Dong and Tien Giang districts. Regarding Can Gio, at the recent meeting of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc with Ho Chi Minh City, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung suggested that the city could study the location of the financial center in Ho Chi Minh City. this island district instead of Thu Thiem New Urban Area (Thu Duc City) as planned.
Leaders of the Ministry of Planning and Investment said that they had explored and found that Can Gio has a land fund of about 10,000 hectares, including a part of the Nha Be district and bordering Long An. If a financial city is here, it will connect the current city center with the new center in Can Gio across the Soai Rap river.
