Combining eco-tourism with the trillion-dong wind power project in Bac Lieu

31/05/2023

The Hoa Binh 1 Wind Power Tourist Area, operated by Hoa Binh 1 Wind Investment Joint Stock Company, a member of the Safe Destination Initiative, was launched on December 20, 2022. Originally a purely industrial project aimed at exploiting wind energy to supply the national electricity grid, the site has now become an eco-tourism destination combining clean energy in Bac Lieu province.

Hoa Binh 1 Wind Investment Joint Stock Company, located in Vinh Hau A commune, Hoa Binh district, Bac Lieu province, is in the first phase of investment with a total investment of over VND 2,800 billion, a capacity scale of 50 MW with 13 V150 turbine towers manufactured by Vestas Denmark, with an annual electricity output of about 207 million kWh.

Accompanying the wind power production, the company combines eco-tourism activities with the Hoa Binh 1 Wind Power Tourist Area, making it a unique destination, attracting tourists and promoting the image of a green, clean power plant that is environmentally friendly. In Q1-2023, the number of visitors to the tourist area was more than 10,000, which is a positive signal for the tourism industry in Bac Lieu province in particular and the Mekong Delta region in general.

The 5km bridge leading to the wind power tourist site is a unique feature of the area.

In addition to visiting and taking photos with the wind turbines, the tourist area also takes advantage of the surrounding environment by organizing activities such as boat trips to explore the mangrove forests and fish sauce-making, fishing areas, lake-side coffee shops, and cycling experiences. Visitors to this area can also feel the hospitality and warmth of the local people, and enjoy a diverse range of food from the Mekong Delta and the brackish sea, such as grilled snakehead fish, salty cooked fish, sour fish soup with snakehead fish, and local seafood like shrimp and crab. Furthermore, the company has built a 4-star resort area with around 40-50 rooms. It is expected to start operating at the end of September this year.

The operating unit stated that tourism activities here help spread a love for nature and awareness of green living and environmental protection among visitors. From observing the beauty of large sediment embankments, mangrove forests, and various animal and plant species, to seeing wind turbines generating electricity through environmentally friendly wind energy, tourists can appreciate the unique features and difference of Hoa Binh 1 Wind Power Tourist Area. Moreover, to build this eco-tourism area, the company regularly organizes outdoor activities such as grass cutting, rubbish collection and waste classification, and takes care of and plants more green trees to cover the area.

This attractive and distinctive feature has made Hoa Binh 1 Wind Power Tourist Area leave its own mark, not overlapping with the tourism products of other localities in the Mekong Delta region.
